- Structural design of rotor blades
Starting from the optimized outer shape, the structural design of the rotor
blade aims to provide the required mechanical properties (stiffness/flexibility,
deflection, natural frequencies, operational characteristics) with minimum
material input.
The design undergoes various evaluations
· static strength analysis
· fatigue strength calculation
· stability (buckling) calculation
· calculation of eigenmodes and
· optionally an aeroelasic stability analysis
In multiple optimization loops, the structural layout and the choice of
materials is adapted to the actual flow of forces, thus resulting in an
individually best fitting design.
The applied design tools and verification methods were developed specially
for the calculation of rotor blades and represent the engineering experience
of a large number of successful rotor blade designs. These methods and tools
were assessed by the independent authorities and received acknowledgment for
its state of the art and integrated design approach.
Several of the rotor blades developed with this background successfully
received a design assessment certificate by world leading certification body
"Germanischer Lloyd".
